We had a little Beeler get-together this weekend for Amzie & Evan's birthday. It was a good time and good food and of course, the kids loved the presents! We ate chilli and soup and it was yummy! One of my favorite things about fall is soup. I make some kind or another once a week. This weekend I made J.Paul's favorite, Broccoli Potato Chowder. This recipe is from my Mamaw and it's really delicious. So if you're in the mood for soup, this is a great one to try.
3 cups diced potatoes
3 cups chicken broth
2 lbs. broccoli, coarsely chopped
3 cups milk
1 cup half and half
1 cup cooked ham, chopped
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup butter
1/2 Tbsp garlic powder
1/4 to 1/2 tsp pepper
3 cups grated Swiss cheese
In stock pot, cook potatoes in chicken broth for 15 minutes. Add broccoli, cover and cook for 10 minutes or until crisp tender. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes. (if preferred, cheese may be added to individual bowls).
Also, I've really been into looking at cooking blogs lately, especially baking blogs. One of my favorites is http://alpineberry.blogspot.com/. I tried her recipe Nutella cheesecake brownies. These brownies were very moist and delicious but didn't have as strong a Nutella taste as I had hoped for, but still I reccommend them. http://alpineberry.blogspot.com/2007/02/nutella-cheesecake-brownies.html
(Well, I was going to put a picture of the brownies, but for some reason I can't - but you can see it on the website!)

Thanks for a new recipe and the great cooking site! I'll have to bookmark it.
I will definitely try this. One of my favorites is potato corn chowder and it is basically the same thing except for adding corn and bacon instead of ham and broccoli. I could happily eat soup everyday but Brett wouldn't go for that. Some yummy rolls would be great with this. Do you have a good homemade roll recipe? Anyone?
Jenn, I make Sister Schubert's rolls. Do you have those there? They are in the frozen section and taste like homemade. Seriously
I LOVE Shredded Swiss!! Sounds Great.
Jen Girl I'll Hook you up with a bread recipe--Mar how dare you-- lead her to frozen bread--COME ON!
Whatever, you know I have a thing for that philsbury dough boy-he's so cute.
I made the soup for dinner tonight and it was good. Aaron LOVED it. Also the brownies were yummy too, but like you said, I couldn't really taste the Nutella. But still yummy.
