Crib net

Okay, if Evan continues to pull his shenanigans, I am totally going to invest in one of these. As I was a bit frantic last night wondering what I was going to do, I remembered that Gianetta has one of these for her baby girl. When I was reading some reviews on it, people have loved it and something they also said was that it was good for keeping older children out (which doesn't apply to me now but would have come in handy when he was a newborn and I was trying to take a shower.) (Would this come in handy for you, Betsie?) Anyways, I feel better knowing I have another option than moving him to a toddler bed, because I am SO not ready for that one.

OH NO!

Tonight I put the kids in the bed and was putting in a wash when I heard Amzie saying "Mom, Evan's out of bed!" WHAT? Oh yeah, he had climbed out of bed onto his changing table. He's not even two. This can't be happening! Well about 20 min later I heard giggling and I see Evan walking out of his room. You've got to be kidding me. Let's hope that he doesn't remember this trick tomorrow. I know - not very likely. :(

Kids sure tell it like it is

We take a little girl named Evie to and from preschool with us. This is the conversation in the car on the way home today.
Amzie: Mommy, is daddy home from school yet?
Me: No, not yet. He won't be home until later this afternoon.
Evie: My daddy doesn't go to school.
Amzie: My daddy does. It's terrible.

Playtime

This happened a few weeks ago but the pictures are so cute I had to post them. Miss Eden came over to play and first they wanted to eat lunch in the Dora tent out back. Of course they brought their babies too! Evan kept barging in on the girlie fun, as you see him slipping in the back door.
Then they painted macaroni necklaces. They had a fun afternoon! Thanks for coming to play!

Twenty dollars well spent

My mother-in-law picked this swingset up for $20. What a deal! The kids absolutely love it! Thanks grandma!

Stories of Jesus

After church last week I was reading my book and J.Paul and Evan were napping. Amzie was just playing and singing. I heard her start to sing the primary song "Tell Me the Stories of Jesus". She abruptly stopped and asked me "Mommy, can you tell me the stories of Jesus?" Aww. "Of course," I replied. "Which one do you want to hear about?" "All of them" she said. So she climbed up on my lap and we talked about Jesus for at least half an hour until Evan woke up from his nap. What a special and sweet time.

A series of fortunate events, then an unfortunate one

A few weeks ago - J.Paul finally agreed that we could get some new floors, granting my biggest wish. If you have seen my carpet you know why this is my biggest wish. If you haven't seen my carpet, there's no way I'm posting a picture here cause it is way to embarassing.

Last week - we ordered our pre-finished, glue down oak floors

Next week - wood floors will be delivered

Week of Labor day - J.Paul will install floors

Yesterday - realizing I would need a new rug for living room, made a trip to PB outlet and dropped a chunk of change on a lovely rug

Today - Evan spilled pink Dora yogurt drink on lovely new rug.

Young Again

First let me explain something. I love music. And I love going to concerts. Looking back to the college years there were a lot of concerts or shows - in Salt Lake, Las Vegas, here. Lots of bands to be seen and fun to be had. Then I went on a mission and got home and got married 6 months later. Then kids came along. Concerts became non-existent. So imagine my sheer joy last week to go to 2 concerts in 1 week! Saturday night we went to see Dave Matthews Band. It was my fourth time to see them and probably my last. It was a great time (thank you Shauna and others) but 65 bucks a ticket for a band that was so far away they were almost in another zip code wasn't worth it. See, I am getting old. But we really did have a great time and it was hot but not oppressive (but pretty nasty seeing the woman in front of us mopping her husbands sweat and running her hands through his wet, sweaty hair). My fav. songs were Two Step and #41. And even though I couldn't really see the actual band members they were still fun to watch on the big screen. Those guys can rock! And have so much fun doing it.

The next Thursday we went to see Paramore at Mud Island. Openers were Paper Route, Phantom Planet, Jack's Mannequin. Oh, and Jack's Mannequin? a-maz-ing. The singer was singing, playing piano and dancing all at the same time. Impossible you say? He can prove you wrong. He was rocking out! I enjoyed them as much or more than Paramore. But of course Paramore was awesome. That girl has a work out when she performs! It was a perfect night for a concert. It had rained all day and felt great out. We had fun with Reed and Amber (bet you guys didn't know Amber is quite the rocker herself. Go Amber!)

On top of all this fun, I also had a great time with the girls at GNO eating out and going to Breaking Dawn release (which I finally finished last night) and going down to Georgia to visit my sister for a few days. So that's why I haven't posted in a while. I've been too busy having fun!

How does your garden grow?

We have a garden. Well actually we have 3. Our first summer here we started out small with this raised garden.
As you see there's not much growing in it now, there was a small patch of strawberries on the right. The next year we decided we needed more room so J.Paul dug up another bed along the fence.
Last year this was filled with squash, zucchini, okra, tomatoes and an attempt at cantaloupe and honeydew. But, as you can see, we didn't use this one this year either.
This is the third and newest bed. Our plan this year was to fill all three beds, but it didn't quite work. We started all our plants from seed in the house, but didn't plant them fast enough so we lost quite a few. But we still did have a great garden this year. Above is our okra, beans, and cucumber. We had a few great looking squash and zucchini but they suddenly died.

Here are our tomato plants. I think there are 4 there and they are huge this year, esp. the one on the left. We had a storm during the night last week and I went out the nest morning and the huge one was completely laying on it's side, but luckily we didn't loose it. After that, J.Paul put a couple of huge stakes in to keep it up. I can't wait til they ripen up!

This is our mystery plant. We didn't plant this. Like I said, we did plant honeydew and cantaloupe in our other bed last year, but that was last year. In another bed. Anyways, we think this is probably honeydew. There are a lot of blooms so maybe we'll have a lot of yummy melons!
So that is our garden story. Maybe next year we can fill them all up. If you have ever wanted to have a garden I say do it! Especially if you live in the south. Things grow easily here. Just start small and with things that grow easily - squash, tomatoes, zucchini, but definitely grow things that you want to eat! Need any advice? Talk to J.Paul. I keep using the word "we" but really J.Paul does most of the work. Are you suprised? I didn't think so.
